Walmart has revealed the acquisition of Parcel, a same-day delivery service provider based in New York City. The retailer did not say how much the deal was worth.
Parcel “uses routing algorithms, [and] a fleet of leased vehicles” to deliver groceries and other items from third-party retailers, such as meal-kit companies and Bonobos (now owned by Walmart).
Walmart said it will “leverage Parcel for last mile delivery to customers in New York City — including same-day delivery — for both general merchandise as well as fresh and frozen groceries from Walmart and Jet.” The retailer noted that the startup will “continue servicing its current clients and adding others”, and will remain headquartered in New York City.
